Taking my time setting up the new site. Likely to proceed in phases, so the template/format may change with the vibes. Right now is a setup phase, so I’m just using the included default template, which is bare bones.
A WordPress site admin (remember when we used to call them “Webmasters”?) can be tempted to load up dozens of plug-ins to add all kinds of bells and whistles to a site. Doing so can cause all kinds of conflicts and compatibility issues – especially if the plug-in is no longer updated or supported by the author. Generally speaking, if the plug-in was last updated in 2009, you may want to move on. This is sadly the case with Comet Cursor (RIP).
Some basics I’m starting with:
Akismet – because spam starts on day one in WordPress.
Google Site Kit – did this replace GA? I think it did. I dunno.
Jetpack – security and speed optimization are the features I use. It has more.
Updraft Plus – I use this to backup to Google Drive vs Jetpack.
Intuitive Custom Post Order – lets you change the order of posts via drag & drop.
Browsing Themeforest and others to see what 2025 has to offer in terms of nice templates.
